"Dying Day" lives! on Bandcamp and streaming now

“Dying Day” is a heart-wrenching account of a once-loving relationship now in its death throes after enduring life’s struggles, disappointments, and financial setbacks. Heavily inspired by the work of Sade, Massive Attack, and Portishead, Ilana Martell’s soulful vocals soar over the band’s head-nodding trip hop beats and bass lines, ghostly guitars, and sweeping orchestrations. This song is the first release from Rocket Knife, the San Francisco Bay Area indie music scene’s equivalent of an Avengers’ team up. Writer/composer Burt Hashiguchi of outfits including Jupiter Noise and HLLLYH recruited the talents of dark pop group Lady Starbeast’s Marc and Ilana Martell and MJ Gurule, Dave Rensin of jazz funk quartet Grease Dealer, and journeyman bass player Ryan Gates.
